All DSPA aerosol generators for fixed installations can be activated by two methods, either;

  • electronically, as part of a complete fire detection and alarm system, or
  • thermally, by using a non-electric Thermocord

The aerosol that acts to extinguish the flames is an inert solid compound until it is pyrotechnically activated.

There are several different models, each contains the same active compound that extinguishes fires of all classes. They differ in the amount of compound they hold and so are intended for compartments of different sizes. Each generator has a starting assembly, active compound and a cooling agent through which the aerosol passes as it emits from the container. During the pyrotechnical activation there is a substantial amount of heat generated and this cooling agent reduces this heat down to a safe level.
